Hardwood Conservatories

A Firth (UK) Ltd hardwood conservatory is the epitome of luxury, providing a beautiful addition to your home, where you can relax and unwind from the stresses of the day whilst enjoying the benefits of the craftsman’s skills in creating your unique conservatory. Using a range of highest quality hardwoods our conservatories and constructed from stout roof timbers and columns, enhanced with fluted mouldings and detailing that can only be achieved using such a natural material. They also benefit from high thermal efficiency double glazing and the security of high specification locking systems for the doors and openers.

Timber Options

Our range of hardwoods are all sourced from FSC (Forestry Stewardship Council) and PEFC (Programme for the Endorsement of Forrest Certification) Approved suppliers. This ensures all our timber is from properly managed sources where forests are correctly replanted. The most popular options are Sapele, Idigbo Iroko or European Oak.

A selection of finishes is available which include a range of stains from Light Oak to a deep Walnut. There are a huge range of coloured finishes to choose from, including two-tone, where the external colour differs from the internal colour.

All our timber is finished in a Sikkens Micro porous high performance coating system which is water based and is absorbed by the timber rather than sitting ‘on it’ like a conventional gloss paint. The finish consists of a sealer/anti fungicide two base coats and two top coats.

If you are looking for a coloured finish rather than a stain then we can also offer a range of high grade softwood conservatories, where the sills are hardwood and the frames softwood.

The Construction

Our conservatory windows are fully draught stripped and feature stainless friction hinges and multi point Espagnolette locking mechanisms. The doors are also fully draught stripped and have multi point locking and hook bolt for added security. Locks are manufactured to the “Secured by Design” standard which is recognised by national Police authorities.

Roofs are completely maintenance free, with the double glazing sat on top of the roof timbers with a bespoke sealing gasket between. The glazing is covered with an aluminium capper in the colour of the conservatory and again with a gasket between the glass and capper.

All double glazing units are 24mm deep, meaning they have 4mm toughened glass pane, a 16mm gap and then the second 4mm pane of toughened glass (also known as 4/16/4). We offer a range of u values (the thermal property of the glazing) from 2.7 down to 1 for conservatories. Options are available for self cleaning and higher thermal efficiency double glazing with various energy reflective coatings, such as Planitherm roof and wall glass (with 1.1 u value) and Actif or Bio clean self cleaning roof glass.

Door and window furniture is available in a range of finishes such as brass, stainless steel, chrome, white, black and various metallic paint finishes plus a traditional style ‘monkey tail’. A locking and vent facility is provided to all openers.
